The letter to the Churches ⛪️ - part 1
Posted on January 13th, 2026 by RachealThe Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John: (Revelation 1:1).
John the Apostle was chosen to deliver God’s word, written as letters specifically to the seven Churches in Asia. He said it was a revelation of things to come, given to him through God’s angel. These letters are relevant to today's Churches as well for God's word transcends times and seasons. Jesus sent these letters to each of the Churches to address the things going on in the midst of her so His people would be blameless at His appearing.
We will take a look at each letter as addressed to the Churches and search our hearts to see if they speak to us as well, if they do, the best thing to do to avert God’s wrath is to repent, turn from such things and live as we are called to.
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Revelation 2:1-7.
Jesus commended the church at Ephesus for their labour and patience for His name sake. They had suffered much but had continued in faith because of the name of the Lord. He also commended them for shunning evil and the doctrine of the Nicolaitans but yet, there was something they needed to address - they drifted from their first love.
God’s people gather together to grow in faith and love despite the busyness of life. Jesus expects us to maintain love despite the fact that we have to earn a living. Earning a living should not make us place things before God but rather the reverse should be the case.
Most times people are not aware they have drifted but when we read the word of God and our hearts reprimands us then we know we need to take a closer look at our lives with the intention of turning a new leaf.
When God comes first in our lives, we have less to worry about because God takes over our troubles and worries over food, clothing and shelter; things that keep people awake. The Lord knows we need them and He said we should not worry over those. God’s word comes to restore and steer us in the right direction so His Presence and peace will replace the worries the pursuit of life brings.
God’s blessings makes rich, without the sorrow. His word is sent to remind us that no matter what we face, He is the owner of all things - visible and invisible, and is in charge of His church, and have the final say over our lives.
And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, ...Revelation 1:5
I will build my Church, He said; the Church bought and washed by his blood will stand no matter what, he is in charge of his church and people and he sees what we are going through. His angels are encamped around us to keep us in all our ways, and God’s people are admonished to pay attention to what He is saying; to maintain love, watch over our hearts so that our candlestick (the symbol of his presence - His Spirit) will not be removed, and at the end we will have a share, and partake in the eating of the tree of life in the midst of the paradise of our God.
God bless.
Peace.
